My newest work, hot out of the kiln. The studio porch provides the best backdrop!
In 2013 I switched from working with mid-range stoneware clay to low-fire earthenware. The result was brighter surfaces created with terra sigillata, patina and glazes; and renewed excitement for innovative designs.
Goings on in the studio...
Central Ave. Streetscape was a public art commission/ASC sponsored project created for the city of Charlotte, completed in 2010. This project began with a 6-week artist residency at Garinger High School in the spring of 2008, where the students and I collaborated to create one of the 3 designs for the tiles. The two additional designs were inspired by input with residents and history of this culturally rich area of the city. Each receptacle is covered with over 350 handmade tiles.
For over a decade, up until 2013, I worked with stoneware, oxide washes and glazes fired to cone 6.
Family. Pots in use. Random projects. Baby rabbits. Just life stuff.
